Melony Catana, AScT, worked on this project while she was employed at EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. The development is situated adjacent to, and within 30 meters of, Mara Lake and Gilles Brook and is therefore subject to the Riparian Areas Regulation (RAR) and other environmental legislation. Melony prepared environmental management prescriptions, a detailed riparian restoration plan and monitored stages of the development, including directional drilling for the hydrothermal system. Melony liaised with regulatory agencies and First Nations, and assisted her client obtain environmental permits, including a Section 9 Water Act Approval and a Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) Review.
Predator Ridge

Elevate principal, Melony Catana, AScT, worked on this project while she was employed at EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. Melony was the project manager of environmental services provided to Predator from 2008-2009. She prepared and/or supervised the preparation Section 9 Applications, for renovation projects on the golf course. She conducted a RAR Assessment for the golf course and residential development, adjacent to Birdie Lake, and prepared detailed riparian and aquatic habitat designs.
Barona Beach
Location: West Kelowna, BC
Project: Shoreline Erosion Protection and Habitat Restoration

Barona Beach contacted Elevate for assistance with an erosion problem along the Okanagan Lake shoreline of their property. An unprotected portion of the shoreline was being eroded by wave action and there were concerns that a nearby building would be impacted. Melony Catana coordinated the services of a geotechnical engineer to assist her with the development of a restoration plan, which included a retaining wall and a riparian restoration landscape plan. Melony also prepared a Section 9 Application and assisted with the preparation of a Development Permit Application to the District of West Kelowna. Both permits were successful. On The Mark was the contractor hired to do the work. The work involved construction of a lock block retaining wall, access paths, rock stairs and native landscape vegetation. The work was successfully completed in spring of 2013.
Peachland Restoration

Principal of Elevate, Melony Catana, AScT, worked on this project while she was employed at EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. Extensive unauthorized site clearing and earthworks was done in the steep riparian area of the property and a stop-work order was issued by the District of Peachland. Melony assisted the homeowner by liaising with regulatory agencies, geotechnical engineers and concerned stakeholders, to determine a course of action that would rectify the situation, satisfy regulatory, geotechnical safety requirements, and ease neighbour’s concerns. Melony then completed a RAR Assessment, prepared a detailed landscape restoration plan, attended a council meeting, liaised with the landscape contractor and monitored construction. The project was a great success in that regulatory permits were obtained in enough time to conduct the restoration on-time and to the satisfaction of the client and stakeholders. Follow-up monitoring indicates that the restoration plants have been successful.
